This skill works like Mining on Grimmwold.

Overview

  • Harvesting now auto loops.
  • The smelting skill checks are lowered.
  • Many ores have been restricted in accordance with the Colors design document.
  • Stone and sand mining have been implemented as book skills.
  • Shovels have now been changed. They need to be set to what you want to mine, by doing a single click and bring up the context pop up menu and selecting from the displayed options. What it will mine is still restricted to the ground type you are targetting.
  • Mining has changed slightly. Just going out and mining locations that have not been prospected will only result in getting the base level 1 ores as defined on the Mining wiki page below. In order to get the other ores, you will need to use a prospectors tool before you start digging. Using the context menu on the tool will bring up a list of the groups of ores that you can prospect for. This works just like the shovels, setting the tool to prospect from then on for that ore group until it is changed. These groups are defined on the Mining wiki page as well. Once you prospect a location with a specific ore group, that location will have a random ore from that group as well as iron.
  • Visceral Reaping has been implemented to mine Necromancy reagents.

Useful How To's

  • You can sell most ingots to a vendor in each town crafting area.
  • The best skill gains you will get is by firing up clay in a kiln. However, there is currently very little use for the ceramic tiles this results in and clay cannot be mined until skill level 70.
  • Dull Copper ore is easily mineable if you don't use a prospector's tool on a vein.
  • The Gargoyle Pickaxe BOD reward will raise the level of ore you're mining for. So if the prospector's tool says Sylvan, and you use a Gargoyle pickaxe, you will mine silver instead.
For those new to UO
Mining can be done near a mountain, or in a mine. To mine, click on the tool you will use (sturdy pickaxe, gargoyle pickaxe, or shovel), and then on minable rock or dirt. If it is not minable, you are probably not in the right spot, or are clicking on the wrong thing. You CANNOT mine dirt while outside, only while in a mine.

Current Minable Ores

Base Metals I

  • Iron: 0 skill to mine (like stratics)
  • Dull Copper: 65 skill to mine (like stratics)
  • Brown Stone: 72 skill to mine, has the same properties as OSI Bronze
  • Cottage Gold: 75 skill to mine, has the same properties as OSI Golden
  • Copper: 75 skill to mine (like stratics)
  • Bronze: 80 skill to mine (like stratics)

Base Metals II

  • Shadow: 70 skill to mine (like stratics)
  • Iron Lilac: 70 skill to mine, has the same properties as Shadow
  • Gold: 85 skill to mine (like stratics)
  • Sylvan: 90 skill to mine, has the same properties as OSI Agapite
  • Silver: 95 skill to mine, has the same properties as OSI Verite
  • Valorite: 99 skill to mine (like stratics)

Skill Required to Smelt Each Ore Type

  • Iron: 0.0;
  • Dull Copper: 65.0;
  • Iron Lilac: 70.0;
  • Shadow Iron: 70.0;
  • Copper: 75.0;
  • Brownstone: 80.0;
  • Bronze: 80.0;
  • Cottage Gold: 85.0;
  • Gold: 85.0;
  • Agapite: 90.0;
  • Sylvan: 90.0;
  • Silver: 95.0;
  • Valorite: 99.0;

Agapite is not a mineable ore, it is only found on Agapite Ore Elementals.

Brownstone and Cottage Gold are unique in that they can be mined before you have enough skill to smelt it. (72->80 and 75->85, respectively)

Gems

All gems are minable when mining for ore. Skill levels for gems should be the same as is listed on stratics. Not yet implemented.

Quality Stone for Crafting

You can mine quality stone for crafting once you have reached 80 mining and have purchased the book "Mining for Quality Stone" from the Book Seller beside The Shoe. Then single click a shovel and set it to "Granite". You can mine granite from any location you can mine ore.

Stones come in a variety of colors.

Granite is not mined the same as stone is on OSI shards. All ore veins have a chance to produce multiple colors of granite, and the granite color is not dependent on the ore present in the vein.

Sand Mining

You can mine quality sand once you have reached 80 mining and have purchased the book "Find Glass-Quality Sand" from a Master NPC. Target any sandy area to mine the sand.

Visceral Reaping

Set your shovel "Visceral Reaping" will allow you to mine up Necromancy reagents. This is dangerous work as you may disturb underground creatures in your quest for these rare reagents.
  • Swamp tiles will mine up blood worms and flesh eating moss
  • Near a grave stone will mine up criminal bones, creeping lichen, devil's snare

Construction Minables

6/28/19: Construction is not currently implemented

  • You can currently mine up both clay (70 skill) and rounded stone (45 skill) which are used for construction.
  • Clay can also be used on a kiln which will convert the clay into ceramic tiles, which is also used for construction.
  • When mining for clay, do NOT target the dirt patches that are shown marked red on the picture. Target instead the area around them.
