If a role-play death is administered the character will be placed in ghost form for a period of one to six weeks where they are only able to communicate with other characters who have spirit speak.  The fiction is the same, the character's soul is knocked out of their body, their spirit remains, but it will take the action of a god to return their soul to their body.  Regardless of the damage to the corpse the character will be returned to their body whole and healed.

Sanctuary is not a perma-death shard, however, due to the nature of political based role-play conflict, there needs to be a way to remove a character from the role-play stage. Consequently, we support extended ghost times for role-play death, which differs dramatically from a basic game mech death.

Game Mech Death
Any death that happens when not in a role-play situation such as hunting. This is considered a normal UO death and is resolved by normal UO mechanics. Fictionally, a character's soul, but not his spirit, is knocked out of his physical body until such time as a player or healer can return it.
Role-Play Death
Any death which is caused by another player during an intentional role-play scene. All scenes must involve at least 30 minutes of role-play at the time of the death, or 24 hour role-play notice of an intended assassignation.

Role-Play Death

Before you consider delivering a role-play death to another player's character please consider the following two points:

  1. Is the character actually participating in the political conflict of the shard. If they are not, a role-play death must be based on extended personal conflict between both parties.
  2. Are there other ways to remove the character from the stage, such as banishment, imprisonment, memory loss, critical wound, etc?

If a role-play death is administered the character will be placed in ghost form for a period of one to six weeks where they are only able to communicate with other characters who have spirit speak. The fiction is the same, the character's soul is knocked out of their body, their spirit remains, but it will take the action of a god to return their soul to their body. Regardless of the damage to the corpse the character will be returned to their body whole and healed.
