Lore
Is a man not entitled to the fruits of his own labor?
'No,' says the Sheriff, 'it belongs to the Crown.'
'No,' says the Priest, 'it belongs to God.'
'No,' says the Paladin, 'it belongs to the Poor.'
The Enlightened Soul rejects these answers. Instead, they choose something different. They choose the impossible. They choose…
- The Imperium.
A kingdom where the artist would not fear the censor, where the gifted mind would not be bound by petty morality, where the arcanist would not be hunted by the cavalier, where the great would not be constrained by the small. And with the sweat of your brow, and the opening of your mind, The Imperium can become your home, as well.

The Imperium Saecularia is a rather mysterious force within the realm of Sanctuary. Appearing seemingly overnight, their members practice and promote the propagation of secularism wherever they are found. Their followers believe that through the disavowment of both religion and the divine, inhabitants of Sanctuary may find enlightenment and self-empowerment. The Imperium helps to perpetuate their creed by enforcing and forbidding the worship of deities within its realm of influence all the while spreading the ideals of hedonism versus faith wherever they may roam. They unabashedly promote the practice of the arcane arts in all their forms; witchery, arcania, black magicks and even necromancy are all thought to be forms of self-enlightenment to those of the Imperium, and seek to challenge any faith or deity whom would look down upon such things as blasphemous.
While all outside appearances indicate the Imperium is genuine in their efforts to help rid the common folk of Sanctuary from the yoke of worship and to merely help them seek greater enlightenment, rumors speak of darker and more sinister intentions. Some say that the Imperium seek to not simply offer an alternative to faith and religion, but strive to outright destroy the divine themselves for purposes all of their own. Of course, these whispers are purely speculation, and often times the sources of such rumors seemingly disappear as quickly and mysteriously as they emerge.
Story
“And so you see, my friends; these so-called Gods everyone makes a big deal out of? Why should we be so concerned with what they care about? When your village was on the verge of a blight, was it your pantheon that came around an’ helped you till up the soil? Heck nah’, that was some of my boys doin’ the dirty work with ya’all. When those goblins decided to march up from the mines and try an’ give ya’ll a hard time? Was it some big-guy with a lightning bolt that saved your skins? Nope – that was the Harbingers of the Imperium, yet again, here to show you that it ain’t all about the big guys and gals in the sky – it’s about -you-. -YOU- have the power!”
The Primarch finished his sermon with all the fervor of an actual pastor, yet without any of the religious meaning. The collected villagers cheered him loudly, and he took a few humble yet enthusiastic bows. His assembled compatriots, dressed in robes and clothes of black and crimson, smiled and waved to the crowd as they stood tall at his flanks. This was a practiced affair, something he and his cohorts had done countless times, over countless years and even across countless worlds, yet it still brought him a sense of smug satisfaction. The game was afoot again, this time in a peculiar realm known as Sanctuary. The Crimson Queen had spread her dark tendrils into the realm, seeding it with Solomon and his Harbingers, just like she had so many times before.
This time was no different; a new world with humble beginnings; starting small with the villages and hamlets, showing them the Path. For it did not take a lot of effort to show the masses that with a little bit of effort, they could rely upon themselves instead of relying upon the divine. And that had been the key: assuring that the peoples abandoned their faiths through any means necessary. Subterfuge and warfare, politics and schemes; they were all his tools, and he and the Imperium wielded them well...
...for you see, to kill a God is no easy task – and it took much effort to weaken one enough to do so. A herculean task, perhaps, but one not without its perks; for the Crimson Queen rewarded her agents well.
