And so it was that “The Four” took unto themselves each in their own likeness. To the great dark forest, the Great Lion led his people. The Dyrlings , the children of Athlendyr, grew strong and hardy, with great families and walls of stone.

To the southern sands the Scorpion King led those of deepest perseverance and commitment to the banks of a fertile river. The Zuberi of Acrab build tall of sandstone and the mighty Arjat became a Mecca of learning and culture on the broad banks of the Ghiyath river.

Strong of arm, and quick of deed, The white goddess led her people to the rolling hills and mountain passes of the northern lands. With pride of clan and steely arm the Valgarins grew strong in their mountain passes.

And in deep reflection, the many petalled goddess chose for herself women of strong purpose and worthy men of honor to guard them. Thru the thick music of the deep jungle she led them to the mountain top of Bishani .

And there upon that ancient spot of choosing, their rose a great city of magic and learning. It was called Lethe’Aime , or forgotten friend. And at its feet crawled the very hive and wretch of humanity.

And so generations passed and the people warred and peaced and warred again, until a new passing came …

And into the lands, it would become known that there were other people, other creatures who were strange and curious, but also familiar and of interest.

So into our lands the Dreusith reveal themselves, the Bastlings seek sanctuary, the Su’ne return home, the Einh come to guard and the Vosferi fight on their continuing struggle.

Shard Philosophy

This shard is built on two very fundamental premises. 

Number one and most paramount -- “Treat all players as guests in our homes and expect all players to respond with respect, and courtesy”. 

The second is – “Allow players the freedom to role-play their characters in a world free of harassment and immature behavior”. 

Our two most favorite quotes:  

“What?!  You only accept people you like?” …… That would be… Ayup.
(Or more accurately, those we HOPE to like.)

 “Just because I’m 14 doesn’t mean there are not people in their 40’s who aren’t immature” ……Well then, they can’t play here either.

  

International Community

While Sanctuary started as an American Shard, we have since our inception years ago attracted a broad range of players from all corners of the world.  With players and staff from America to Australia, we welcome players from all countries and time zones.  And even our most distant players, as far away as Japan report excellent connection times.  So even if you are as far away as Oz, just click your heels three time and say "There's no place like home".

Shard Status

  • Up since March 2002

  • Dedicated Hardware with multiple backup machines available

  • Dedicated sDSL 768K line that can support 200 players online at once

  • Very little lag reported for even our European Players at 90+ players online

  • Daily backups, no chance of a shard wipe.

  • Redundant firewalls, never been hacked.
