PoliticsInformation on the Priest Kings here: http://www.sanctuaryshard.com/Comraich/Zuberi/relationship.htm Bright sun poured through the windows which were barely cracked open, making the room almost stiflingly hot, yet to the old, wizened man huddled over a table near the window, the heat was comforting. His old bones creaked and ached with the slightest cold and he welcomed the hot dry summers of Arjat City. Sitting up and stretching, he looked down at the papers stacked on the writing desk and sighed. Soon he would be done with the latest events and would send the documents to the other scribes to begin the tedious process of copying each page many times over to insure that the history was never lost. But the job of writing and recording it fell solely upon his old, hunchbacked shoulders… he was the official chronicler after all and it was his duty to see that every detail was carefully recorded. A faint smile crossed his face, deepening the wrinkles embedded in his leathery skin. His people had a fascinating history and he had enjoyed the last 60 years he had spent copying it and later recording it for himself. He had been appointed during the reign of the previous Sultan only bit over a decade after the violent murder of the last Priest King. He felt a flash of gratefulness course through his withered frame that he had not been responsible for recording that event. Instead his careful notes told the tale of the rise of the previous Sultan, Izezi... named to the position as closest of kin to the deceased Priest King to guard and to watch over the lands of the Zuberi until a new Priest King had been found. Though an intensive search had gone on, none had been found until many years later when the Sultan’s own grandson, only aged three summers at the time, was found to be having visions. The news had been delivered to the Sultan on his death bed and though many had cried out that the new Priest King should rule in his stead, the Sultan’s son, Sahure, had stepped forth and through the sheer force of his strength and charisma had won his people over and claimed the right to rule until his son came of age. Thus had things been in transition for the last year, but now life was settling for the Zuberi and so began the rule of Sultan Sahure. May the desert winds guide him well… thought the old scribe to himself as he finished with a deep flourish and put his quill back into a nearby inkwell. He carefully gathered up the pages, treating them as if they were petals of the most fragile flower as he carried them from the room to set the other scribes to work on them immediately. |
