Holidays

Holidays coincide with the ascensions of the priest kings, lots of minor holidays except for the first priest king and the most famous ones.

Zolgokh is a traditional greeting, rather like shaking hands in the west, usually reserved for the new year holiday. The younger person places his or her forearms under those of the elder to gently support the arms of the elder person. It is always important to show respect to anyone who is elderly, and, if you’re under 20 years old, to anyone older.

The Day of the Flood

This is a fairly small holiday and is usually celebrated only with close family members. On this day a large meal is eaten and afterwards family prayer to Acrab occurs. This holiday originated with the male members of a family eating a large meal on the day of the flood to prepare for the hard labor of the following day. This Holiday spread from the flood plains to Arjat however the Shaula who are not directly effected by the flood pay no heed to this holiday.

The Last Day of Harvest

Contrary to what you might expect there is no great feast upon this day. Rather this day brings a time of fast and intense prayer thanking Acrab for what he has brought (or praying next year he brings more). This also marks the day many Jabbah begin their pilgrimage to Messia. At the hour of midnight the farmers of the floodplains gather, each bring a single shock of wheat and place in a circle. Then one farmer (a different family does this every year) takes a lit twig and places it on the wheat. The Wheat brought represents unity in the flood plains and a sacrifice to Acrab.

The Day of the King

The time and place of this Holiday varies from year to year. It takes place upon the day (or if one can not be found an estimated day) the new Priest King has arrived. This is Arjats major holiday and temporary markets are set up all around the city. The Priest King during this time walks threw the city for all to see (in different fashions depending on the King). Ajami from the furthest lands visit Arjat this day and every Shaula tribe sends at least one person. The entire city turns itself into a huge market and various Gladiator games occur throughout the day. Along with games of might large tents are setup for men to play various gambling games.
