Combat & War

"If we cannot defeat our enemy by strength along we shall wear then down until they will fight no more." The Zuberi are not afraid of a face to face fight and will often do so. In instances where victory is impossible under any tactics Zuberi military leaders will often chose to stand a last time against their enemies. To die in battle brings great respect in Zuben and it is said that Acrab holds a special place for those that fight to defend his chosen home. Zuberi show unmatched bravery in battle although tactics and strength may fail them.

The Shaula fight in a far different way than the Jabbah solders. Shaula who grow up on horseback always moving from oasis to oasis are able to mobilize quickly. Attacking an enemy army then quickly retreating. Wearing down on those unaccustomed to Desert Fighting. If the wrath of the Desert does not wipe out an Ajami army you can be sure the Shaula will finish the deed.

After the decade of Acrab's anger the Shaula hold a tight bond militarily to the Jabbah. This ,in fact, is the only serious bond the Shaula hold to their Jabbah brothers (expect for the Priest King of course). This bond gives most benefit to the Jabbah however. While Shaula soldiers can fight effectively against an foe in Arjat (as shown in the decade of Acrab's anger) The Jabbah have difficulty adapting to desert fighting. Also the majority of Shaula tend to be trained in at least basic combat arts due to necessity.  Due to the strong defensive structure that is Arjat such is not required of the Jabbah.
The Zuberi hold no historical grievances with other races. At times issues have appeared but never has their been a large scale war between Zuben and another major race of Comraich.

There exists a few groups of solders in Zuben

Royal Guard - The Major Group is the Royal Guard. These people are usually the second sons (who stand to inherit less) of wealthy merchants. Well trained and well paid these are the premier fighting force of Zuben. Their fitness in combat is unmatched and their sense of loyalty and honor undoubted. These serve mainly as guards of the palace and the Priest King himself as their numbers are not large.

Town Watch - Poorer folk than the Royal Guard many join the town watch to start a better life. Do not mistake their title for these are often the forces that are used in wars as well as defending the city. They are large in numbers and are near perfectly trained.

Slave Fighters (Kangal) - These are criminal slaves who are "loaned" to the Zuben Government as solders. (their owners are paid an amount for the service) They're not well trained (why bother?) and many have no armor to speak of. These solders are used when city guards cannot be risked often they are sent to their doom. Few survive more than a year and it a rare instance that any survive their 7 year term.  Their skills are rough from a tactical standpoint but their fierceness is legendary.

Dune Riders - The Majority of Shaula fit into this category. They're called upon in times of need. They fight quickly inflicting as many losses as possible then retreating. Few riders ever fall in combat due to this although they cannot be trusted to win a war alone. The Riders fighting style makes wars far more dragged out and it usually ends up in a battle to see who can outlast the others. Needless to say the riders rarely loose this but they cannot be counted on to win a crucial battle quickly.
