Changes to the Race: January 08,2005
In preparation of the new map due for release the end of January
Map Changes
With the change over to the new map, the –city- portion of
Arjat will be changing significantly. Here is a very terrible rough map of the
new layout. Once everything is static I will put up better pictures:

Summary of Changes
-
The noble section and palace are all
together
-
Meissa is no longer as far from the city
as it use to be, and it is no longer a city unto itself.
-
There is a specific middle class area,
with 9 little homes
-
The theatre and gladiatorial area are
between the noble area and the market area.
-
The ATP (Arjat Trading Partnership) has
a section south of the docks of approximately 16 tents.
-
And the Market Square has been converted
into a more old world location with narrow streets and crumbling walls.
Major Fiction Changes
Also I will be changing the fiction of the Zuberi to not
have a Priest King, but only a Padishah. We’ve felt for a long time that having
both is a confusing situation. Also with the change over of the new map, I
(Lara, aka Owner-Admin) will be taking player head for the race and playing the
Sultan, as a male – Anbar ibn Hillel. If we get the race active and stable
again, I will hand over the player head to the best candidate.
Our attempts to centralize the role-play around the El-Thabit
Family did not work. I don’t know if it was just a suck ass idea, or if we just
had a lot of our core players go MIA at the same time.
Consequently, I ‘m going to be opening the fiction up to
more then the El-Thabit, while at the same time trying to get the new bazaar to
become the primary active role-play area. I will talk more on the bazaar below,
first let me review what the primary fictional groups will be.
Noble Hill and the El-Thabit
The noble area in Arjat has been moved up and slightly away
from the downtown market district and will become the primary home for the El-Thabit
family. At this point, I am going to say that all potential candidates for
sultan will need to be of this family, so keep that in mind when choosing a
character.
Fiction for the El-Thabit family is not changing
significantly. The only change, is that the El-Thabit tribes of The
Wandering Mare and Rising Sand do not have established living quarters,
their fiction is that they live in the noble compound when in the city and are
on the move at all times when out of the city.
The fiction for the El-Thabit is on the towns page.
The Whispering Palm Oasis
The Whispering Palm Oasis is also going in on the new map,
and for the most part its original fiction will be staying. The Oasis is
generallt the 'hippy camp' of the Zuberi. More a place of spiritual and
intellectual gathering then a true wandering Shaula camp.
A general overview of the tribe can be found
here and a write up will soon be on the towns page.
However it should be noted that there is no one to run this tribe at this time,
and we are already short on players in the race generally, consequently, this
tribe will not be the focus of the revitalization effort.
Acrab's Heart
Home of the Amhara and Salt Riders
The Al-Amhara camp has also been brought into the new map,
and will be going thru a fiction rewrite so as to make the camp more available
to the general player base.
The Bazaar
aka Jasmine Square
Rather then trying to create player relationships thru the use of tribes and
clans as we have in the past, we are going to try and create a centralized
role-play around a particular location -- specifically the new Bazaar being
built on the new map.
The recruiting process for this centralized role-play will focus around
characters who have a specific role-play service or product to sell or market
and the promotion of interaction, trade and socialization.
Characters can adopt one of the suggested profiles listed
here, or may do a character change. The choice is the players.
The Bazaar role-play is being constructed to incorporate characters from the El-Thabit,
and also the two Shaula oasis (Whispering Palms and Acrab's Heart), in
additional will be providing the back ground for players to be simply OF this
lower Bazaar area. Homes and shops are available in the surrounding area.
The activation of this role-play will begin after the new map is done, and I
have finished all the Admin duties necessary for its completion. That
should be the first week of February.
