The people of the lands travel from far and wide to pay this tribute. A festival is held, as well as great hunts for game creatures such as boars, stags and others. The oath giving is only done by the men in the clan. The women do not give the oath, though they are in attendance. It is assumed that they give their support to the men of their specific clan. Often times, there is a grand celebration after the oaths are all given. Singing, dancing and drinking carry on well into the night, sometimes lasting for days. AttireThe attire for the ceremonial oath giving varies from clan to clan. Most people, however, attend wearing their most formal clothing. Fancy dresses and well-made tunics are common at the event. The HuntThe day before and after the oath taking is reserved for the hunt. Preparations are generally done in the morning and the hunt commences in the early afternoon, sometimes lasting to the late evening. The king traditionally gives out a prize for the overall best beasts taken in the hunt. The women of the clans are not permitted in joining in the hunt, the men thinking the risk to the women being too great. |
