Fiction Facts

this thread to see if changes to this page are
being proposed.
Fiction you MUST do
- Physical descriptions must be in line with the culture. I know a
lot of people like to be unusual, and I respect that, however with the
exception of minor descriptions, hair, skin and eye color must match the
descriptions here.
Fiction you CAN'T do
This lists those topics that are definitely NOT in this culture.
- The Sioba do not speak like pirates, they do not have parrots on their
shoulders or peg legs.
- The Dverge are NOT dwarves, they may think they are part dwarven, but
that is not proven fictionally in any way.
- Interracial breeding is HIGHLY frowned upon and approvals for this type
of char are going to be very very rare.
- You can not BE a druid if your character is female, however you can
claim to have druid training, that is perfectly okay.
- You can not BE a Volva if your character is male, however you can claim
to have studied with them.
Culture Norms and Expectations
- With the exception of the Völva or the Shield Sisters, Valgard is an
outwardly male dominated society. This is not to say women are not
strong or intelligent, but that they show that thru their fathers, husbands
or brothers. Woman attempting to gain a "man's respect" as a laird,
thane or equal, should expect to be ignore or treated with disdain.
You will have to earn your respect two fold. (There is no woman's lib
movement here.)
Perm Death
Unlike on Sanctuary, there IS a number of actions within the culture that
will earn you the loss of your character (i.e. a forced character change.)
This will list those actions that will cause this to happen.
- ROLE-PLAYING that you are a mage may get you exiled, hunted or possibly
killed (aka perma-death) in Valgard. (Please note this does not
include using magery the skill, the restriction is on role-playing yourself
AS a mage.)
- ROLE-PLAYING that you are a necromancer (i.e. you raise corpses from the
dead) as opposed to being a
Lothakil which is a Druid who has a shamanistic outlook and a connection
with spirits. (Again, this does not include USING necromancy, the
restriction is on role-playing yourself AS a corpse raising necromancer.)
