Battle Anthem of Valgarin warriorsValgard! Valgard! Family, clan and land! From loch t’ glen t’ mountain peak Valgard! Valgard! Tallest, strongest, free! Berserker fierce and rider strong Yrsa! Yrsa! Warrior without peer! But even when all hope is dead Yrsa! Yrsa! In your eternal hall! Nobody knows who composed this anthem or when. Valgarin warriors have sung it from time immemorial, often when going into battle, with pipe and drum accompaniment. Where no instruments are present, warriors will often strike the edge of their shields with their weapons to create the rhythm. Can also be sung at Valgarin gatherings, as a symbol of that which binds the different clans together. Alternatively, when the drink is flowing freely and there are foreigners present (say at an international gathering of some kind), Valgarins have been known to strike up the anthem, almost as a dare to the other races to respond. In volume at least, there are few songs or singers of other lands that can compete with the massive lungs of a group of Valgarins, beating time on the tables as they sing! |
