The Rules

Role-Play

Comraich is what we call a relaxed role-play shard.  That means we encourage role-play, but do not enforce it.  That means we ask players to know their races, but don’t demand it.  Comraich accepts role-players of all skill levels.

We believe that with mature respect between players there is room for everyone.  To make sure that our expectations are clearly understood the following role-play rules are presented.

To read more about what we mean on hard core vs relaxed role-play and other standards and expectations on the shard, please check the culture page.

  1. The cultures of the races are provided as a role-play tool, not a role-play bat.  With the exception of the fictional facts listed for each culture, players should not nit pick others over minor exceptions or deviations.  There is a LOT of information, it's to much to expect all players to know the information cold.  (Players looking for complete immersion and can't deal with those that don't enjoy hard core might not be happy here.)

  2. Many of the players on this shard are attracted to it because of the depth of the cultures.  That means while the rule above is true, so is its reverse.  Players are expected to make a reasonable attempt at playing within their culture and not completely breaking the spirit of the world.  We have a large circle of hard-core role-players, don't ruin their fun either.

(If you are the type of player who likes team-style role-play this is your place.  If your the type of player who likes the most unusual larger-then-life characters, you may not be happy here.)

  3. OOC (out of character) conversations are allowed on the shard, however they should not interfere with on-going role-play.  We recognize that not everyone wishes to role-play 24/7.  But it is expected that those who are OOC take their conversations away from public areas like banks and other prime gathering spots, and not engage in OOC near other's involved in role-play.

  4. Role-Play here is considered a team sport -- everyone, not just you has the right to enjoy role-play interactions.  That means if you start a role-play with someone and they ask you OOC to stop or tell you they don't enjoy it, you should stop.  If you are not enjoying a RP, you should tell the person, not storm off and log out in a temper, they are not mind readers.  This is also called consensual role-play.

  5. Taking IC stuff OOC:  We've had over 3000 players come thru our doors in the last three years.  And the old role-player's adage that you shouldn't "Take IC stuff OOC" is a bunch of baloney.  Everyone does it sooner or later -- bad day, not enough sleep, a particular topic -- anything can step beyond the virtual world in which we pour ourselves and effect us personally.  If you find that you've some how upset a person OOC with your role-play, be a caring adult and apologize.  If you didn't mean to upset them personally, there is no reason not to simply say "I'm sorry".  On the flip side, this is fantasy, not reality, and if you find that TOO much of your role-play is effecting you personally, you may need to go outdoors and get some sunshine, or better drugs *smiles*.  If your taking IC stuff OOC begins to effect the shard or the community, be prepared for us to help you out that door.

".. essentially if I am understanding it right, the cookie cutters have been taken away from us....but we still have to make sure our cookies fit on the pan.  that just cause someone is rping a particular culture different, does not mean they need "help" to adjust their char unless they are rping against the hardcore facts of the race"

Players

  1. Be nice to the staff, we love players, especially nice, patient players.  We are not OSI, we listen.  Rants, bitches, threats and arrogance will get you nowhere, literally.   I can and will toss a player off the shard for being rude or simply making someone else’s day un-fun.

  2. If you have another problem with a player or staff – Handle It!  Don’t call the GMs or the Admin’s until such time that you are willing to admit you’re a weenie and can’t resolve the issue yourself, or you’re willing to admit the other player is just smarter and more devious then you.  Now, don’t get me wrong, I’ve happily admitted both of those things before to other “Gods” on other shards and begged them to step in and help me.  We will do this; just beware what you ask for.  You might end up being the one in trouble for being an unreasonable nitwit.

  3. There is never ever any excuse for role-playing hostility or arrogance to a staff character even if you are both engaging in light role-play for the sake of the situation.  Politeness supersedes any dictates of your character.

  4. Stay out of situations that do not concern you.  If someone doesn’t have enough sense to NOT invite you into the situation, make sure you have the sense to refuse to be involved.

  5. If a staff’s “player character”  (an avatar without the words STAFF over their head) play “dumb” its be cause they are off duty and don’t really want to explain how to make magic wands.  If they *mumble* RTFM …. Then go “read the fine manual”, page another GM, or post it on the boards.

  6. No attacking other characters without the players' consent. Consent means agreement OOC either in brackets or in .msg.  However if a player is pushing the line with you and will not back off, you MAY say "If you continue this line of RP it will mean OOC Consent to PVP".  I suggest you use that line specifically so there is no possible confusion.

  7. Players do not have the right to privacy.  This is a role-play shard, you should not be having OOC conversations that you do not want over heard.  Take it to MSG or ICQ.  We monitor players for style of role-play  (for instance role-playing your character alone may not be alone, you may always have an appreciative audience), ideas on new role-play, how difficult spawns are, who’s having challenges hunting, who might need a helping hand with skills, and generally hints on how to improve the game.  “Yes the hay has ears.”  Not to mention, WE the STAFF, are not be the only ones able to move about stealthed.  (* points at the assassin and thief chars *)

  8. Do not ever post a rant (no matter how well worded) about another player or staff on the message boards.  Doing so will get you banned.  You don’t go to a party and rant about your spouse to friends and strangers.  They don’t want to hear it.  Honestly, the people you DO want to hear it are the admins.   If you don’t trust us to get involved and handle it fairly you are on the wrong shard.  You have plenty of ways to contact us privately.

Staff

  1. Be respectful of Player’s at all times.  Treat them with courtesy and patience.  Never assume a player has done something wrong no matter your personal opinions.  Assume all situations are misunderstandings and seek to help all parties involved understand.

  2. If a player comes to you with a problem with another player, do not get involved unless the player has acknowledged that he/she attempted to resolve it himself and is ready to admit their a weenie.

  3. Don’t Tweak player skills or stats.  Fix the problem and make them happy, but make sure it’s a problem before you fix it.

  4. Generally stay concealed unless you are dressed appropriately for a player and are willing to engage the player in polite conversation or role-play.  I really hate god-like looking staff members hanging around making players uncomfortable.

  5. Use good sense when determining the tone of your interaction.  Don’t interrupt RP with OOC and vice versa.  If the conversation is casual, enter it casually.  Its okay for a Staff member to RP with their staff chars especially if that char’s personality is a polite and helpful one.  If your staff char has a personality that is not nice and helpful, then either remove any twinges of role-play from that char and don’t engage in RP at all, change the char to one that is nice, or re-consider being on staff.

  6. Staff reserve the right to NOT engage in RP if they are in a hurry to help someone else, or are simply not in the mood but know they need to log on to help.  They will seek not to break an existing mood however and msg you privately.

Stuff you learned in Kindergarten

  1. Harassment. This includes making out of character threats, sending unwanted messages when asked to stop, using offensive language, making unwanted out-of-character attacks or comments, or using in-character justifications for what are really out-of-character assaults.  This includes harassing in game, over the in game .msg, on the boards, in the boards IM, or via ICQ.

  2. Bad language above and beyond “casual adult speak”.  If your swearing in anger, you’re probably making someone uncomfortable.

  3. Verbally insulting or demeaning another player out of character.  DON’T DO THIS.

  4. Don't take things that don't belong to you.

How Many Characters Can I have

All new players get ONE Character Slot

To apply for a secondary character: Make sure your first character is well developed and that you're role-play skills are on par with the senior players.  Then post an application for the second char on the application board and we will consider it.  Likely, you will not get approval right away and the GM's will take the time to watch you.

THE POLICY:  Second Characters will require a greater demonstration of role-play skill.  While Comraich is dedicated to supporting a players desire to role-play their character as they see fit, Comraich is a community, and in some ways a stage.  We will accept almost anyone who presents themselves as a nice mature player who is interested in learning to role-play, but that does not mean we will give them a starring role.

Second characters should be better thought out, exceptionally believable, dynamic and well role-played.

Additional characters are granted only as veteran rewards at your yearly anniversary.

Unattended Macroing

The staff recognizes that some players have commitments to jobs/family/friends that does not allow them tons of time to play and raise skills that they need to play and role play here on Comraich effectively.

Therefore the shard has removed the auto log out timer and players are welcome to stay logged in unattended as long as they use their house or some secluded corner of the game.

Prolonged inattention in a main city or by any bank or any central RP area is not allowed.  Besides, it looks a little stupid to be standing like a deaf mute in the middle of the thoroughfare.
