.Agenda
Converted to Wiki:
Agenda
This agenda system is being provided as a tool to help players get together
more easily on our rather large map. This system is for primarily shard
wide events and not for private or racially specific events. At this time we are
not intending to offer a private, guild or race specific solution. So you’ll
need to use the message boards to arrange those events. For more details on what
primarily means or how this system works with role-play, please read
below.
.agenda
Displays player submitted shard events on screen. The information displayed
is: Event #, IC/OOC, Title/Desc of Event, Time until Event Begins, Location
Description, Contact Information. The system will broadcast “An event is about
to begin, please check .agenda” 15 & 10 mins before the start of the event. It
will not broadcast more then that.
.agenda add
Allows a player to submit a shard event to the agenda system. The dot command
will walk the player thru a series of questions:
Is this IC or OOC?
What is the Title/Desc of the Event?
How many hours from now (displays current EST time) does the
event begin?
How many mins from now (displays current EST time) does the event
begin?
Where is the event being held?
Who should players contact?
Do you want to set the goto location to your current position?
The system will not let you set the hours to be greater then 48, nor can you
set the mins to be greater then 59.
.agenda delete {event#}
Allows a player to delete a listed event. Please don’t delete other peoples
events, that’s not nice.
.agenda goto {event#}
Allows a player to travel –ooc- to the event listed. The person setting up
the event is encouraged to set the .goto point some place on the edge of the
party, so players can "wander in".
Using the System in Role-Play
First off, it should be obvious that this system constitutes Out of
Character knowledge of the events listed, just as the message boards
do. However, we are not putting this tool in and then saying “whoops you can’t
go because your char wouldn’t know about it”, that’s a bit silly.
Therefore, this article attempts to explain how this OOC tool can and should be
used in relationship to role-playing.
One – If an event is listed as OOC, and not IC then any player
from any group, guild, race, creed or preferred breakfast cereal can go to it.
No IC reason is needed as the event will be primarily out of character. Examples
of this maybe a “Meet and Greet of Staff”, or “Newbie Hunt”, or “TGIF! Lets get
our pixels drunk!” events.
Two – If the event is IC then you will need a plausible role-play premise
for going. However, to those arranging these events, please recognize that this
system announces generally public events, that means if you are not
willing to accept a reasonable premise for someone you don’t know joining the
event -- Don’t list it here.
It is assumed that anything listed in the agenda system is general public
knowledge such that maybe posted on bank walls or being discussed by the NPCs.
Therefore a list of reasonable premises might be:
“Oh hey, Matilda the Innkeeper said such and such was getting married, I
just wanted to stop up and send my congratulations! Is there food?” *looks
around hungrily*
“Hey what’s going on here? I heard the ruckus from the road.”
“News reached me of this gathering, I am Bob the merchant, may I join
you?”
*Peeks head in looking at the large crowd* “Anyone know where the privy
is?
That is just a basic sample of general vague excuses as to why you might have
wandered into the event. Obviously, if you know the people then these excuses
are not needed. If you would like to have a more solid RP reason, please feel
free to message one of the contact people.
Important
I have said this system was for GENERALLY public events, that implies they
are not necessarily completely open to all. There will be some cases where no
matter WHAT the excuse is, or what good cover you come up with, you are not
going to get a warm welcome – In Character. The most obvious example of this is:
A player who is banned from Zuben showing up in Zuben. Other examples might
be: a Jillhani necromancer showing up at a Dyrling/Valgarin Druid gathering
or a man at a ladies henna night.
Events listed here does not constitute an open invitation to join the
party and do whatever you want. If you are going to cause trouble, be difficult
or behave in any a way that may disrupt the intention of the event, either …
don’t go … or phone ahead and ask.
Three – The goto feature of the system is provided for player convenience. It
does not imply a method of in character travel. So PLEASE go ahead and use it,
makes getting to events much nicer when your tight on time, but if someone asks
how you got there, please don’t tell them “That goto feature on .agenda”.
*grins* Tell them you walked, rode, gated, or hitched a ride with the traveler
or ship’s captain. Something.
It is PERFECTLY acceptable to use this tool to help get ONE person to you.
It doesn't necessarily need to be a great big group thing. However, you MUST
accept that if others show up, then you should be prepared to role-play with
them and not blow them off.
Implemention
We are implementing this BARE BONES ... if you guys really like it and
use it, we can convert it to a better system with gumps (windows) filters,
etc. But before we put the time into to do that, lets find out if this is a
big help or not.
