StructureWhen a student enters the mage city with the intention of joining a path of study, they must first select their Discipline. (In modern day terms, a Discipline would be your chosen major at college. But it additionally reflects your personal belief system.) There are three different disciplines, law, war and life. It is believed that at one time there was a fourth discipline, that of chaos, but such has not been seen inside the walls of Lethe’aime for centuries. Only the fourth abandoned tower gives any weight to this belief. All races are welcome into the city of Lethe’aime to study. All that is required to enter is a natural affinity to magic and the “eye of the Anneaudar”. A token made of some mysterious metal that allows a person to walk through the gates guarding the inner city. A student begins their student life as an Aspirant. During this time they may
try out different disciplines until they have found the one they wish to
continue with. Also, the aspirant begins to consider the different guilds that
make their homes in the city. Many of the guilds are discipline or race
specific, but this is not a hard line, and some of the largest guilds span races
and disciplines. (In modern day terms, a guild would be like a fraternity. But
it also reflects your chosen goals in life.) Once a student has completed their training and is ready to dedicate themselves to a Discipline the can take the tests for the rank of Asoi. Asoi is the most common term for a member of the Mage City of Lethe’aime. Asoi who join guilds then continue their life’s work with in that guilds
order and structure. The structure of the guilds vary significantly. OccupationsStudent, applicant, trainee mage: "When a student enters the mage city with the intention of joining a path of study, they must first select their Discipline. (In modern day terms, a Discipline would be your chosen major at college. But it additionally reflects your personal belief system.)" Confirmed student: "Once an aspirant has make their choice of Discipline and passed a basic test, they become a Confirmed. It should be noted that the school has minimum standards that need to be satisfied to reach the next level of title, yet the individual Guilds may have higher expectations. At this time most have chosen a guild and live in or near by the guilds head quarters in Lethe’aime." Asoi, full scholar mage: "Once a student has completed their training and is ready to dedicate themselves to a Discipline the can take the tests for the rank of Asoi. Asoi is the most common term for a member of the Mage City of Lethe’aime." Some mages choose to further their knowledge and skill, honing it into a more potent force. By continuing to study and research the immense libraries of Lethe'aime, they become more powerful and wise. "Asoi who join guilds then continue their life’s work with in that guilds order and structure. The structure of the guilds vary significantly." Anneaudar: "The highest title anyone can hold in the city of Lethe’aime is Anneaudar, the most powerful person in the city and the vast badlands beyond it. There may only be one leader at a time. Anneaudar has the supreme executive authority over all with or associated with the city. When the Anneaudar resigns, is slain, or is impeached, the "council" will convene at their earliest convenience behind closed doors to raise a new Anneaudar. It will be done by open ballot, and one cannot vote for themselves, nor can one abstain. In the event of a stalemate, the one who has been Asoi d’Anneau longest shall ascend. If the Anneaudar is slain, all members shall dress in black for a week as he or she lies in state in public. Immediately following the funeral, a new Anneaudar will be announced." The Council of Lethe'aime: Compromised of the heads of each guild, they are the governing body of Lethe'aime. Similar to a congress, they make decisions in the Anneaudar's stead, as well as selecting a new one should the former die, or otherwise abdicate the position. The Anneaudar still has the final say in all matters, however. Asoi d’Anneau: The leaders of the individual guilds associated with the city. |
