History
Time Line
Prior to the Arrival of the Gods – Many other intelligent races lived
on Comraich, the ancestors to the four were still at the stone age. They
worshipped a collection of lesser gods, yet chaos and enmity reigned, few of the
races achieved any lasting society.
6000 Years Ago – Akroth arrived and began to rule Comraich. Many of the
races did well under his rule, but even more were wiped from history.
5000 Years Ago – The four gods came to Comraich and defeated Akroth.
(more details to be provided after the quest.) At this time the walls of
Lethe’aime were built around an existing city that no longer exists. Most of
the older races were destroyed in the battle to defeated Akroth, those that were
not left these lands or died out in the next centuries.
Unknown Thousands of Years Ago – Some powerful group come to Comraich and
began to enslave the races, both the four and the NPC races. They build the
main city out of marble gotten from Bishani. They were ultimately defeated.
Recent History – There have been many times when various and powerful
lords have risen to power in the badlands. Some from within the city itself,
yet most from with out, and even others out of the very badlands itself.
Most Recent - Violent dusk storms flatten the city outside of the walls
every few years, and the population is forced to rebuilt. The last happened
just a few years ago, and the city is still being rebuilt.
Historical Overview
*The following is what is KNOWN by any*
The slums of Lethe have been around in one format or another for hundreds of
years, yet it is a highly transitory population and drastic changes in the
population count have happened more then once. Due to the harsh nature of the
wasteland environment, constructing any lavish buildings is impossible outside
of the ivory walls of Aime, and is made of entirely of shanty towns that the
gangs there occupy.. lean-to's.. and even tents. There are a few semi-large
constructions made of thrown together timber that are fairly well anchored in
the sand and clay wherever the rocky ground would allow it. However the
unpredictable sandstorms wreak havoc on everything, leaving those who manage to
weather the storm to pick up the scattered pieces of what's left and rebuild,
causing the appearance and layout of the slums to change literally every time
the wind blows. Three years ago a storm came that completely decimated Lethe
except for one or two of the stronger built timber homes. People manage to
weather the storms better than the homes they live in due to the simple storm
shelters they have constructed, consisting of little more than ruts some four to
five feet deep with a large post in the center driven some 2 feet into the
ground. Around the post large tarps are wrapped to keep out the sand and
anchored around the top of the pit, then more timber is laid across tarp help
protect from any large flying objects. The appearance of the different portions
of Lethe are as diverse as the people who inhabit them, however each have
learned to coexist with one another and have in their own ways learned how to
survive in this hostile territory... coexisting as best they can that is, and
surviving for at least a little while.
*The following is what is KNOWN by any within the mage city*
-Aime, the city within the walls, has existed as far back as anyone or any
written books have knowledge of. However some elders and records can attest
that inner Lethe'aime has grown into a large city in the last 780 years by
pilgrims and knowledge seeking travelers around what was always a scholastic
establishment built within the great marble walls that has existed since the
dawn of known history. Aime can only be described as beautiful. Because the
area within is protected from the harshness of the environment outside the
walls, lush green gardens and trees prosper in the temperate climate. There is
a fountain of some sort seemingly on every corner amid statues and other works
of art all a testament to life. Murals and paintings depicting wars and scenes
of diplomacy, of Gods and of leaders of men, and of the finest examples of
creativity and imagination. At no place in Aime can one not be within a short
walking distance to a serene spot to sit and read, or discuss politics or
philosophy with a friend. There is a temple in each of the four sectors to pay
homage to the Gods and remind everyone that it is the Gods to thank for this
beautiful gift of life.
In the center of Aime is the Complex of Consideration, comprised of great four
towers, made of the same white marble stone as the walls. It is a majestic
creation that has stood for eons, also a work of art in it's own right built by
what everyone assumes to be the hands of the greatest of ancestors. The complex
serves as a college and institute of the mind. It is here individuals come from
all over to expand their learning and intellect in a great many of fields.
Magery, literature, art, advanced metallurgy, advanced weaving, mechanical
theory, science and alchemy, agriculture, politics and philosophy, and of course
theology. The complex is said to hold secrets of the world, many of which are
not known even by those who have the honor to study within it's walls.
*The following is found ONLY in records sealed within the deepest vaults of
Aime that only the elder wizards there have access to.*
Before the institution within the great marble walls became open to the public
seeking knowledge and wisdom, it was home ONLY to a tight-knit collaboration of
individuals either powerful in the magical arts, or a form of monk that worships
all form of religion found on Comraich... paying homage to each of the 4 deities
in equality. They were born within the walls, and died within the walls,
knowing only the knowledge found within them and that their ancestors provided
them this place in which to live and prosper away from the outside world.
However a significant part of their belief system, was in knowing that they were
there because they duty to fulfill. The truth behind this duty being lost
through the hundreds of years, and found only within the vague writings and
stone etchings left to them by their ancestors. At present time, what the duty
of these people whom current elders of Lethe'aime refer to as "The Founders" was
is a mystery seemingly lost in time. It is rumored that Anneaudar is the only
one with any knowledge about what these people may have truly been.
*The following is information known by NO ONE in Comraich. I have some ideas
about the details beyond it however wish to reserve those details for future
endeavors, or can PM to you Lara if you wish, because they can perhaps be used
in a "knowledge discovering" quest in the future.*
The ancestors of "The Founders" are the ones who built Lethe'aime many ages ago,
the last survivors of an ancient race. The construction of the great tower and
the tall marble walls that surround it was done by request of the four God's.
Underneath the great tower, within the deep dungeon below it, is found a large
stone slab that has been unseen by the eyes of mortals for eons. The slab is a
seal placed by the hand of man, and infused by the power of the 4 God's united,
that keeps locked away from Comraich a terrible secret that must never been
known... for the greed and curiosity of mankind will never cease to spawn an
individual who wishes to unlock the seal and expose what is beneath.
"The Founders"... descendants of the ones who built Lethe’aime were instructed
with the task of guarding the seal beneath the tower. After many many years,
the truth behind the seal died with one of the original "Constructs" who helped
build it, in hopes that it's secret would remain hidden from all for eternity.
Before he died however, it was he who opened Lethe'aime to the outside world, to
those who sought knowledge... wisdom... or guidance, and began the scholastic
institution in hopes that by offering freely to those who wished it passage
within the walls and the information within, it would quell the likelihood that
one day kingdoms would not allow their curiosity or fear to overcome them and
result in Lethe'aime being over run and it's secret exposed to all. The
Founders, and those who now live in Lethe'aime who are their descendants, still
to this day guard the deepest portion of the Tower in the center of the city,
and although not knowing what lies beneath... allow no living being to enter
the sacred chambers of old.
The name "Akroth" was brought down from those earliest days, and is the name
that was given to what lies under the seal. The seal is known as "The Akrothian
Seal". It was from the work of what lies under the seal that turned the once
vast brown and green grasslands that was said to be the seat of the 4 gods of
Comraich into what is now known as the badlands of Akroth through some unknown
and unimaginable method or power.
