Cheat Sheet
City: Lethe’aime
People Name: Lethian
God: All four gods are worshipped in Lethe openly, and some of the
lesser gods not openly. In most recent history, the dark god Akroth has been
released into the world. The borders of his influence are within the badlands,
but outside the main city of Lethe, some Lethians worship him secretly.
Culture:
Subsets and variations of the current four cultures with a melting pot
mentality of Mos Eisley, or the series of books called Thieves’ World.
Dead animals and sometimes people laying in the streets or gutters for days
at a time because no one cares to move the bodies, are afraid to move the bodies
because of catching disease, or because there is no government who's duty is to
keep the streets clean. A place where a meal that consists of dog meat to some
might be considered a delicacy, however those in the gangs eat 3 full courses a
day, and the gang leaders sometimes live quite lavishly but not in comparison to
a noble.
Naming:
Names are either traditional to the players native kingdom, especially if
they were born there. Though it would be common for assumed names or nick names
to be used.
Appearance
As per the individual kingdoms. Lethe’aime is the only location where
children of mix blood are generally accepted as characters. Not because the
population is understanding, but because they mind their own business.
Religion:
Religion is not particularly prominent in Lethe. There are pockets of
fanatics and pockets of atheists, but by and large its not a primary part of the
daily lives of Lethe. Mostly people mind their own business.
After Death: The wealthy burn or bury their dead, the poor may be left
in the streets or taken to communal locations where the dead are burned on huge
pyres.
Church: There is at least four main churches in Lethe, near the great
statues to each God. But these are not the open welcoming churches of the main
kingdoms. The church areas are typically walled and gated, and few are welcome
after dark.
Lesser Gods, Non-Player Races & Animals
It is not uncommon to see members of the other intelligent NPC Monster races
in Lethe. They typically keep to themselves and don’t stay long, but the people
of Lethe have learned to be generally tolerant of them, happy for the business
and happy when they move on. Some of the lesser gods are worshipped in private,
mostly by the NPC races, but occasionally by heretical player characters.
Sub Racial/Political Group
The main division in Lethe is between those inside the marble walls and
those without. Law within the city walls is well maintained, and the city is
beautiful and peaceful. Outside the walls, strength and cunning rules.
Sub Racial
See the write up on Personality for the different types of people who live
outside the walls.
Those within the walls are likely to be mages, clerics, paladins, scribes,
scholars, or anyone seeking magical, historical or religious lore/teaching.
Political
Inside the City: A council of mages
Outside the Walls: Political power ebbs and flows, with the strongest
consistently vying for power.
Kingdom/Cities/Towns
The City of Lethe’aime has the main mage city in the very center. Three
story tall marble walls that protect its great halls of learning from attack or
prying eyes.
Outside the walls there is no structure, no order. Few of the building are
permanent, except for the occasional church, guard post or market square. For
the most part buildings are clumped together behind palisade walls -- appearing
to be nothing more then random enclosures with roads leading from manned gate to
manned gate. (Think Pennsic here for anyone familiar with it.)
The occasional open air market, with carts and small shops can be found, as are
a number of inns, taverns, brothels and “opium dens”.
Racial or Cultural Animosity
Animosity is pretty much the name of the game in this city, not a whole lot
of brotherly love. For the most part the city outside the walls is a place where
no-one goes unarmed, and most try their best not to be noticed.
Terrain
The land inside the City is beautifully sculpted gardens and neat water
ways.
The land outside the city is dirt, endless dirt, broken only by roughly lashed
together palisade walls, where nothing but the occasional scrub tree can be seen
to break the monotony.
