TraditionsRitual Suicide (Sendo-ido)Ritual Suicide is considered amongst the Jillhani to be the ultimate payment, forgiving all transgressions or loss of honor. When a Jillhani faces a situation in which there can be no rectification or forgiveness the Jillhani will often turn to ritual suicide. Ji'Mal nobles carefully phrase their orders to those beneath them to ensure no such orders ever place those ordered into a position where they are facing a paradoxical situation as when faced with a paradox of service a Jillhani will often to resort ritual suicide as the only "correct" answer. As we all know there is going to be perm death at some time for whatever given reason (character change, someone actually messing themselves up big-time, or even for role-play purposes killing off a henchmen) My first idea is the way of an honorable death by the warrior: As the warrior stood in front of his Lord having disgraced himself and the name of his house he hung his head in shame. "On your knees!" bellowed the lord. The old warrior fell to his knees crossing his wrists with his arms extended to his Lords feet, and his forehead pressed tot he ground in humility. "You defied your commanders order to spare the life of that Valgarin prisoner. Why have you done so?". Not daring to lift his head and anger his Lord even further the warrior spoke quickly a slight tremble in his voice knowing there were only going to be two outcomes of this. "My Lord, the man spat at your name in my face. I could not control my anger and I struck him down in anger...." The Lord looked at the body of the fallen enemy soldier and looked back at the old warrior trembling at his feet. He did act out of loyalty, yet he was given a strict order. "You give honor to your house by protecting my name, but you shame me even more by defying orders given by my most trusted commanders....While I should let you hang from a tree like a dog, I will show mercy and let you take your own life." His face streaked with sweat, dirt and blood form the battle, the old warrior rose slightly to a kneeling position his knees at an angle aligned with his shoulders. (nearly in a samurai style) From his back he slowly and gracefully removed a forearm length blade. The hilt customarily adorned in precious jewels and silk ties, the family name was engraved n the blade itself. When the blade was retracted, some could have sworn to have heard the sound of a singing maiden, believed to be the voice of the goddess calling to her child to return to her embrace. from his pack he removed a white bundled silken cloth which he laid out in front of him in perfect symmetry (each tip of the cloth touches and is centered to the knees). He then laid the blades sheath centered on the cloth the tips facing east and west and the blade itself facing north to south. In a soft voice he began to pray to the goddess while he began removing his chest plate. As his prayer finished he was finished as well. His white tied undershirt was unlaced down to his ais and pulled don off his arms leaving his scarred upper torso bare. Shedding a single tear knowing he was going to his death he felt sad for having to leave his loved ones behind, but also overjoyed his Lord let him die and keep his honor. Looking up he waited till he was given permission to end his life. he came from the waters of the Goddess, and now his life will flow back to her embrace. Ji'Kalna guide you in the afterlife..." The final words being said the warrior turned forward to his blade. he picked it up kissing it once as he whispered the names of the spirits of his relatives that had passed before him that he would be embracing soon. once every name had been accounted for he traced the blade down the length of his chest and once at level with his heart he jabbed the blade in to the handle. With his last breath he whispered Ji'Kalna's name and fell forward on his blade. Once the man had died, the warriors (respectively the commander and the youngest) took care for the body. it was taken back to the Lords house for the family to take care and bury it. along with the fully armored body the blade that took his life was wrapped without the sheath in the white silken cloth and wrapped in a braided long lock of the warriors hair. |
