RelationshipReligion is the center of their life and a rare spotting of the Goddess is seen as a blessing to any who view her diving in amongst the waves or sliding through the jungle undergrowth. The priests and priestesses are said to be selected by the Goddess herself when someone discovers one of her rare serpent scales along the beach or deposited upon the rocks. The discovery of the scale which is about the size of an adult hand and silvery in color, is viewed as a sign from the Goddess that the finder is to be brought into the temple as an initiate. The scale will spawn upon the beach after a ritual "prayer" is spoken by the player. This way people who don't wish their characters to be priests will not be forced into the RP by walking by a serpent scale that the game has randomly spawned, and also insures that there will be scale for each player that does wish to RP a priest or priestess. The scale should be craft able into a piece of jewelry, probably a medallion worn either around the neck or on the forehead to show they are a priest. Hierarchy in the religious class is determined by the Goddesses favor (see section on government). Priests and priestesses each are foremost members of their own houses but in addition they are members of the Sanctum. The highest ranking priest or priestess controls the Sanctum, whose main purpose is the education of initiates that the Goddess has sent them and serves as a meeting and social gathering place filled with debate and lectures and libraries for study. (ala ancient Greece) There are 2 general schools of thought among the priests. One group believes the goddess is a Sea Serpent and reigns supreme over other serpents such as snakes. The second group believes the goddess is a Giant Snake and reigns over all serpents either land or sea. The topic has been debated for almost as long as the race has existed and the art and history of their religion has become intertwined with both symbols representing the Goddess. The average member of the race accepts both forms are the same Goddess but some continue to argue to this day, believing in the one true form (either snake or sea serpent depending on belief).
