Personality

[ Core Beliefs ]   [ Tsa'ido Code ]

Like all of the varied people in the world of Comraich, the Jillhani cover the whole spectrum of emotions and personalities, from the malevolent to the benign and all flavors in between. This page outlines the norms of the society via which the common Jillhani determines acceptable behavior.

One point that guides all Jillhani lives is the desire to understand the face or skin of their goddess, their role with in the whole, and how they may further their race, their house (or village) and themselves.

Women are generally seen as the protector of the home and hausu within the home.  This includes politics, trade and spiritual protection within.  Men are seen as the protectors and are responsible for the honor of their family or hausu, both physically and spiritually without.

Personal honor is defined by your role with in the whole, and while there are variations on the definition of "honor" between say a spiritual warrior, a house warrior, a merchant and a spy master, the protection of that honor is sacrosanct to the individual and the society.

The Ji'Coi generally ...

  • See tolerance as a weakness.
  • Accept personal choice over tradition
  • Have little desire to prove themselves physically
  • Use their mind before their strength
  • Admire the skills of the artist and craftsman
  • Prize practical academic knowledge

The Ji'Mal generally ...

  • See tolerance as a weakness.
  • Choose family over individual
  • Consider social status to be of great importance
  • Can not tolerate stupidity
  • Failure is a sign of weakness
  • View military accomplishments as a source of pride
  • Prize obscure academic knowledge

The Ji'Ken generally ...

  • See tolerance as the guidance of the goddess.
  • Choose family over individual
  • Accept personal choice over tradition
  • Appeal to the goddess before they use their strength
  • Failure is a sign of the goddess demands greater effort
  • Prize mystical lore and knowledge

It is important to stress that like all other cultures, the Jillhani have the full range of "human" personalities.  The quiet, the shy, the amoral, the greedy and the weak can be found among them.

Core Beliefs

The Jillhani believe that the souls of those who acted honorably in life, and served Ji'Kalna, return to her side upon their death. Those outcast, or who died dishonorably, are cursed to wander the world, barred from Her service. These dishonorable sorts tend to lash out in anger, attempting to take out their existence on their former fellows, in a vain attempt to exact revenge. They are known to scour the world as Oni and worse, searching for bodies to inhabit once again to wreak their vengeance.

Those who join Ji'Kalna's side, through Honor and Faith, are treated honorably, and respected greatly by their families. It is not uncommon for each family to have a small shrine setup to honor their ancestors, usually complete with the skulls (if not the entire skeletons) of the dead. It is commonly believed that those whom Ji'Kalna embraces retain the intelligence not seen in the Oni, and thus, may be called upon in times of great need to aid their families and people. Needless to say, it is a point of honor for every family member, from Ji'Mal to Ji'Ken, who died with Honor.

Tsa'ido Code

There has been a lot of mention of Jillhani honor and code and what that means, the web page states that this ‘honor’ is different from social position to social position and profession to profession, this is true but there is still a general path or components of this way. These are listed here so that each individual can understand the over all components of this honor. This should be read closely along with the ‘The Warrior Way’ under the Combat and war section of the web page.

In Jillhani tradition, Tsa’ido, is a term which translates "way of the honor". Many Jillhani have devoted their lives to Tsa'ido, a strict code that demanded loyalty and honor to the death. If a Jillhani failed to uphold his or her honor he or she could regain it by committing ritual suicide or submitting to whatever other judgment his/her lord/lady deemed necessary.

Tsa’ido is a particularly internally-consistent ethical code. In its purest form, it demands of its practitioners that they look effectively backward at the present from the moment of their own death, as if they were already, in effect, dead. This is particularly true of the earlier forms of Tsa'ido or tsado. Of later forms, traditionalists would scoff, "they reason with staying alive kept clearly in mind."

There are seven qualities associated with Tsa’ido

•   Ja - Courage
•   Ti - Benevolence
•   Klei - Respect
•   Yasolo - Honesty
•   Shig - Loyalty
•   Ji - Rectitude (Right Decisions)
•   Zar - Industriousness
