HospitalityWhile no Jillhani will turn away a member of their race, ones social status will dictate where one will dine. A noble will never have a servant dine at their table but instead send them to the kitchen to eat while having the master of the servant dine near the head of the table with many blessings called over their meal. Ji'Mal and Ji'Coi hospitality is very formal and dignified As the servants bring forth the first course of the evening meal, a lightly spiced soup made of rice, ginger and other spices, the first bowl is filled to it brim with all about the table muttering a prayer to the Mother then the bowl is set upon an alter in her name. The second bowl is filled almost as full and placed before the honored guest and so on until all of the guests have been served, then will the household be served starting with the lord or lady of the house and on down the ranks. As the meal progresses it is the same with each course, the first to the Mother, then the guest, then the house is fed. At the desert course all present, noble, servant, and slave bow there head as the house priestess calls down the blessing of the Mother over all present to bless them in time of plenty and guide them thru times of lean harvest. then as one all seated at the table enjoy the desert served be it a variety of tropical fruits or a light pastry with sweet honey glaze. Ji'Ken hospitality is relaxed in its formality only the prayers to the mother for the blessings being very fixed and rigid. Gathering around the huge table groaning under the weight of all the food, all who are dining within the house that eve would bow there head in a silent prayer until the eldest amongst them stand up to say a formal prayer to the mother thanking her for the food of there meal, the blessings that the house has received, and anything else they thank the Mother for that day, be it the health of a child or the very river on which they live. After the prayer the meal is begun with every one filling there plate and talking to everyone else at the same time everyone at the table be it the youngest child or a favored guest helps them self to the food. After everyone has eaten there fill it is time for relaxation and entertainment. Anyone and everyone is welcome to entertain be it reciting a poem or doing a dance or singing a song. ForeignersThe offer of hospitality to a foreigner lays solely with the head of the house, and there is no perceived obligation to grant hospitality to one of another kingdom. It is the business of the host as to whom they offer hospitality to. Guests in a house are considered to be under the protection of the host until they leave. It is not unheard of for the host of a guest to fight in the place of the guest when the guest is challenged to a dual while enjoying the hosts hospitality. However this does not mean a Jillhani would ever refuse basic food and drink to someone in need unless the two cultures were at war. The individual would simply not be invited inside and would be given food and drink on the step. Bond of SaltThe Jillhani understand the Zuberi concept of Bond of Salt and can not responsibly deny an understanding of the tradition.
