Worship

Dyrling Beliefs

To outsiders, Dyrling religion is disorganized and unstructured.  Dyrlings however know their god is a fairly personable god, who is more likely to handle things in a one on one fashion, and tailor his visit to suit the needs of the particular individual or group.  In that spirit, Dyrlings tend to live their lives as a form of worship in and of itself, living their lives to the fullest.  A core part of their beliefs is in finding their life's path, and it is to that belief that the College of Paths itself was formed.  It is this dedication of life to worship that is one of the reasons so few Dyrlings stray onto darker paths.

Days of Worship

Since Dyrlings worship through living their life as best they can, there are no cyclic/weekly days of worship.  Individuals will perform more specific worship as their hearts demand of them.  There are however several annual holy days and festivals that are honored and celebrated throughout Telrae'dor, as well as some more specific to individual communities.  On these occasions, there is usually group prayers, periods of meditation, times of remembrance, as well as songs, dances, grand meals, and even parades and entertainments.  Such occasions are as full of life as the Dyrlings themselves.

The Pard'Morid

In ages past, the Pard of the lands realized that a new step towards protecting their way should be taken. This way would lead them closer to the elements that balance nature, time, and Athlendyr. Through this reasoning, they spend many years testing the elements of the world around them, honing their ways as rangers to be at peace in the wilds, studying with the druids to learn how to listen to the songs and stories nature tells them. They also spent time with the mages to understand how they were able to direct the elements in nature to form what was willed by the mage.

One Pard did not see this as the proper focus of their search for this truth. Instead, she spent many days and nights just sitting under the branches of a large apple tree in the Collage of Paths orchard. Time flew past, first weeks, then months, then years, and on the fortieth day of the eightieth year, she disappeared right from plain sight. In a surge of sudden understanding and great elation, she stood and rushed toward the temple. None detected her passing in the grounds surrounding the temple, not even the animals were moved to flee her coming. As she entered the temple, still no one took notice, even as she entered the main chamber of prayer. As she stood before the dais dedicated to the Athlendyr, she came back into visibility with a thought. Her reappearance did not go unnoticed and caused murmurs of awe to roll between the scribes present. It was thereafter decided that her way of thought would be thoroughly studied by any Pard with the will and talent. The process of her disappearance had been studied thoroughly and dubbed Morid (Or dimming, in the common tongue). The ability was soon taught to other Pard, who were granted the name Pard'Morid (Morid for short).

It is thought that the elementals are only willing to part with so much of their energy to a person, and the ability of Morid uses up much of that energy. It is also speculated that the elementals hold a bit of resentment for a non-elemental to be able to blend so well with the elements in nature. Focus upon the spirit is only part of what is needed to be one of the Morid. They must also focus upon the balance of the mind and body, with the spirit being the balance between them. If a Morid loses their focus upon maintaining the balance, they may find themselves unable to phase back into the realm of the tangible and be lost forever. As with any ability of balance, there must be a counter measure to maintain the balance. As such, there are limits to the use of this ability. The Morid must be strong of mind and body to maintain their bodies form while walking with the elements and be able to travel safely for great distances.
