RelationshipThe Dyrlings love their god and their are few if any religious dissenters. The lion god is actively involved in his peoples lives, and many a person will tell how he came to them on a quiet walk or in the dawn of the morning. He corrects bad behavior, disloyalty, cheating and deceit, but is forgiving and patient with his chosen people. Criminals will often be marked by him personally with claw marks on their bodies. Their are few who fail to reform after an encounter like this. Churches and ShrinesDyrlings have few buildings dedicated as places of worship. They frequently use town squares for their community gatherings of worship, but the predominant thing most Dyrlings use for personal worship when they feel the need is a personal or house shrine. Most personal shrines are nothing more than a small chest containing mementos of important or spiritual points in their lives. These get brought out and used in spiritual meditation. Some families have family shrines as well, which may be a large chest or small room with items of important remembrance to the family. Some of the wealthy have taken this still further to constructing full buildings as dedicated churches. Such churches are initially intended as a family shrine, but over time as the family's influence may grow, they have become a part of the spiritual memories of the communities they are a part of. This is particularly notable in the Church at the College of Paths, as so much of spiritually important memories have occurred there by so many, the Church has taken on a racial spirituality for all Dyrlings. ClergyAthlendyr is in essence a father figure, and views Dyrlings as his beloved children. Clerics from the College of Paths tend to also follow this view. They become a part of the communities they serve, residing and working there, and tend to function as councilors and confidants. Most Clerics are ready to assist individuals or families with their worship in their own homes at times of the worshipers choosing. This is another reason why individuals tend to maintain their own shrines and places of worship, as the Clerics are frequently on the move in their communities, making it difficult to bring standardized objects of worship. Those Clerics who do assist at the few permanent structures of worship tend to reside at them and care for their maintenance and upkeep. |
