Origins

Legend tells that when Athlendyr brought his chosen to the lands of Telrae’dor they found a race of people already living in parts of the land, in and around the deepest forests. For a long time the two peoples lived in peace. The Tu’Danaan at first welcomed the primitive people and taught them the arts of writing and magic. The land was large and there was room for all. Yet as the Dyrlings prospered and their need for land expanded the Tu’Danaan began to worry that soon there would be no place for them. The seelie court negotiated with the honest men and woman who they had grown fond of and accords were agreed upon. But the Tu’Danaan were not a lawful race and some disagree with the arrangements made by their queen. Soon the unseelie court broke bond with the Dyrling settlers and waged war upon them.

The Dyrling settlers reacted as is the way of any primitive and superstitious race and met violence with violence, to protect their families. For three generations it was war, and soon the seelie court was dragged into the conflict and all bonds of cooperation and friendship were lost and forgotten.

It was as this time a second race made itself known. They came from the deepest parts of the great Yewling forest. At first they came in ones and two, scouts and scholars. The Dyrlings at initially believed them to be Tu’Danaan with their long elegant bodies and gracefully pointed ears and slanted eyes. But where the Tu’Danaan were brimming with energy, mischief and passion, these new comers were quiet and full of peace.

The Alvar had lived in seclusion, for time beyond measure in the Yewling Forests but the war between the Dyrlings and the Tu’Danaan had finally reached their councils. Such that scouts were sent forth to see what was happening in the lands beyond their borders. The Alvar and the Tu’Danaan had never delt in peace with each other as their natures were in such contrast.

The war was slowly wiping out the Dyrlings who had neither the arms nor knowledge to survive against Tu’Danaan who were generations advanced in combat and magical ability. For reason unbeknown or not understood by the Dyrlings, the Alvar entered the conflict, teaching the Dyrlings the art of the bow and to move silently thru the forests. The tide of the war turned and soon the Tu’Danaan has been driven back into the deepest parts of forests they called home.

When peace once again reigned in the lands, the Alvar returned to their forest homes, and some stayed with the Dyrlings, to teach and finally to marry. It was at this point that the seelie Queen bargained with Athlendyr. She knew there was no longer a home for them, and yet was unwilling to leave with out making a mark upon the land they had claimed for eons. A pact was made between her and Athlendyr. And so he lay with three of her daughters and children were conceived. The pact was made that none but a Dyrling in direct maternal descent from these three princess could claim the Telrae’dor throne.

And then the seelie queen made to close the curtain and return with her people to their own lands. The unseelie court resisted, yet finally the deed was done and the Tu’Danaan passed from the lands of Telrae’dor.

It is unknown how and when the Alvar left, some believe they still live in the Yewling forest and other myths speak how they traveled farther north passing beyond the borders of the known lands.
