Occupations

Paladin

If you wish to role-play the religious knight of Athlendyr, you would begin your training at the College of Paths. Most paladins begins their training as a cleric and then by demonstrating their martial skill are selected to train as Paladins. However, many "new" paladins do not join until after the age of 60 when they are already full grown and in many cases grandparents. At this time, if they can pass the tests for knowledge and martial ability they will be accepted into the Paladins. All Paladins belong to the Den of Athlendyr. Most belong to a specific contingent (aka guild). The contingents all handle the recruiting and management of themselves and by their appointed leader. You do not need to join a guild to be a Paladin, you may simply be part of the main "Path Contingent" assigned to the College.

Knight

Knights in Telrae'dor are almost exclusively a part of either a Noble House or the Royal House. Knights may be trained at the College, or they may be trained by the individual house contingencies. All Knight contingents (aka guilds) are sworn to a particular Noble House, or they are sworn in general to the Kingdom and are considered loyal only to the King (much like the Three Musketeers).

All Knight contingents are formed under the Den of Athlendyr, even if they are specifically sworn to a Noble House. Knights who are members of a contingent like this, may additionally be counted among the guild that defines the Noble House to which they are sworn. A Knight who is not a member of a guild, can claim to be a member of the main "Path Contingent" which is sworn to the protection of the king in general

To clarify: There are TWO types of possible knight contingents (aka guilds), one are those sworn to a house, and one are those sworn to the king. There CAN exist more then ONE contingent sworn to the king. If you are not sworn to any contingent, then you are in the "Path Contingent" and sworn to the king.

Ranger

Rangers in Telrae'dor are called Pard. Now there are sure to be plenty of characters with the class of ranger as it's a popular one for all kinds of characters. However, if you are looking to role-play a ranger, much like Strider of Tolkien, then you are called Pard. The Pard is associated with the College of Paths, however training is done from Master to Apprentice. Players may belong to a particular Pard Contingent, or simply be a "lone ranger" and consider themselves part of the "Path Contingent."

Monk

In Telrae'dor Monks rarely leave the College of Paths except to tend to those in the city of Telrae. They are predominantly scholars, however since most monks only join the College very late in life and from all walks of life, they may very well have all kinds of skills and knowledge, including melee and craft skills. The primary role of the monks is to teach, the second role is to maintain the master books of kin, and their third role is to tend to the religious needs of those in the city when there is not cleric to do so. Monks are considered clergy, just the same as clerics and paladins are, however they stay within the College, hence the distinction in name.

Cleric

Clerics are trained at the Collage of Paths, the age of a Cleric ranges from young to mature. Those that choose to become a Cleric at a young age are expecting to return to a village to handle the religious needs of the villagers. Those that join later, may also seek to do this, however they may also join up with the Pard or Paladins and travel seeking adventure. There may very well be more then one contingent of cleric, but in most cases the village clerics join their village, and those that choose to adventure join the contingents of those they travel with.

Crafters

Most Dyrlings end up as tailors as the culture is heavily defined on embroidery and delicate lacework on clothing. Though a good deal with work their way into woodcraft and carpentry as these people live close to the lands, They will attempt to build with their natural environment augmenting lower tree branches into their homes as roofs and major supports. Other Dyrlings take towards farming and sculpting choosing to work with the clay and dirt, helping the land to grow and become more beautiful through their talents. Many Dyrling made items are prized for their exquisite beauty and durability.

Druid

Being a druid comes naturally to this people as they already live so close to the lands. These people tend to be the advisors beside the mages helping others to better understand the world they live in. Druids will commonly take an active involvement with the construction workers helping to meld buildings more naturally into the environment, working with the land instead of against it. Druids generally try to stay neutral in most matters and many speak often with the druids of the Valgard people. Druids are also a member of the Den of Athlendyr and may have individual circles. The Druids of Telrae'dor have a strong relationships with the Druids of Valgard.

Necromancers

Necromancy is considered the highest form of sacrilege in Dyrling society and it is not tolerated. The Dyrlings do not believe in reincarnation and to desecrate and raise the bodies of their friends and family who have become one with the land is the most vile crime one could possibly commit in their culture. Even subtle and hidden practice of such an art does not continue for long with watchful eyes such as the paladins and priests abundant and everywhere. Even mages look down upon and scorn such a disrespect for life and they do not consider necromancy a part of magic. Necromancers are either expelled from the culture entirely or stoned to death when found out.

Mages

Magic is abundant in the Dyrlings. As such there is certainly no shortage of magic wielders wandering about. It's practiced in the open and is celebrated as a part of everyday life in the Telrae'dor kingdom. Magic comes naturally to these people and it's common to see even young children creating small colored lights and other minor illusions while playing in the streets. Magic is another facet of life, meant to be used for creation and enjoyment within the people. Many higher mages become advisors in the community.

Thieves

Thieves among the Dyrling people are practically nonexistent as the society tends to take people who need to resort to theft in and help them get back on track in their lives, Quickly eliminating the need behind theft. Those who choose to steal regardless are met with constant scorn and frequent punishment at the hands of both Athlendyr and his paladins. Wise thieves will strike out into the wild and become brigands rather then stay in Telrae'dor under the gaze of Athlendyr's followers. Many older thieves bare several permanent claw marks on their bodies made from Athlendyr's hand.

Bards

Many people tell stories in the kingdom of Telrae'dor but none have as much passion for it as the bards. Since the Dyrlings are such an easygoing people these songs, tales, and dances are welcome daily as entertainment for the populace. Many bards make a great deal of money telling their stories to the people as they are always welcomed in taverns and around campfires. It is highly rare to see a bard cast aside as they are the source of worldly information for the Dyrlings. Many a bard find themselves entering a tavern only to be met with free drinks and happy cheers as they regal the locals of tales from the distant lands.
