HostilesDark ForestThe Mythonic Cult, a hold over from some dark art cult founded eons ago inhabit the Dark Forest, along with a host of other eerie forest dwellers:
White WoodsThere are no hostiles in the White Woods. Queens GroveThe natural habitat of the Gnawlings (rat men) and various bandit and brigand groups. Fallen FieldsThe Haunted Dead (bewitched swords, armor, halberds, etc.) Yewling ForestIn the western edge live the Bendith, a two headed giant that is a cross-breed between Goblins and Fairies. It is believed that a race of Goblins live under this great hill. Barrow DownsSkeletons, mummies, shades, ghosts. The barrow downs are believed to be the ancient burial place of either the original Dyrling kings, or the Tu'Dannan kings and queens. Random EncountersBoth Ogres and Ogre Lords wander the Telrae'dor lands. History of the CreaturesMuma Padurii (reaper)There are many stories dealing with the Muma Padurii. But the most common
belief among Dyrling Mythology is that these forest spirits where once normal
humanoids, probably druids, who protected the forest, and had been enchanted by
the fairy folk ages ago. Why exactly they had been enchanted is still a mystery.
Some say that the fairy folk were amused by these druids and sought only to help
them protect that which they loved the most. Others say that the fairy folk
aimed to amuse themselves when they did such things. But whatever the reason
these humanoids where trapped in the form of a tree for all of eternity, and
every time that they where slain their spirits would remain in the forest, and
they would once again take the form of a tree, forever protecting the forest. Wanderer (ent)Unlike the Muma Padurii, the Wanderers did not spring up from the enchantment
of the fairy folk for they themselves are of fairy blood. Their origin even
among themselves has been lost throughout the ages. Wanderers are one of the
eldest magical beings, to have ever exist, and why they choose to become hostile
is in part is a large mystery. However one story in particular does make the
most sense. CorpsersThe Corpsers are the result of breeding gone bad. Ages ago a pillywiggin named Rasha was tending to a garden. Normally pillywiggin fairies are very good at this, but that was not the case with Rasha everything she did concerning plant growth turned out to be a mess. Rasha pursed her lips and went to work. She sprinkled a little anger, a little rage, some blind hate, and long sharp vines... She moved back and look at her creation and exclaimed, “Masterpiece!” Its safe to say that the Fairy Queen did not agree. But by then it was to late the Corpsers had spread like wild fire and these nasty little weeds had placed themselves all over the forests. When the Curtain was closed between both worlds these creatures sneaked by and then hide in the forest grounds. If you are ever walking in the Dark Forest its not surprising to be ambushed by them. They will immediately start whipping you with their vines and chase you down until you are out of sight, and basically for no good reason, its just their nature. As for Rasha, well the fairy queen was very understanding. She of course made
sure that rasha stopped tending to flowers and plants but later in her life
Rasha became a musician and lived happily ever after. GazersGazers are creatures which are circular with long skinny limbs, and one big
eye in the center of their small bodies. They are capable of hovering in the
hair through magic and most of their attacks are magical. OOC Notes for Writers:History of White Woods and Dark Forest: At some time in the very distant past, the “fairy curtain” was open between the fairy lands and Telrae’dor. Athlendyr made a deal with the light fairy queen to close that curtain and leave his lands. They reached an agreement. That was, that Athlendyr would sire children upon the fairy queens chosen handmaidens and upon herself. These children would then continue on to sire the “nobles and kings” of Telrae’dor. When the deal was made and the children given into the keeping of the Dyrling commoners, who at this time were quite poor and far from the advanced people they are now, the light queen tried to close the curtain, but the dark fairies resisted. The curtain WAS eventually closed, however many dark and polluted creatures were left in the dark forest. The light queen retreated behind the curtain, but left a few light fairy creatures behind in the white woods to safe guard any duplicity on behalf of the dark fey court. The name mythonic, wanderer was made up, so there is no earth history that can be referenced. Info on the Muma Padurii can be found here: Bendith - the bendith's in mythology are small, we could use some fiction that explains how the "god of the giants" blessed them with great size for their help in some giant war against the valgarins and dyrlings. Fallen Fields History: It is said that a large group of Zuberi road into Telrae'dor for conquest. They met up with a force of Drylings who resisted them. The battle wages for 43 days and nights and the blood soaked the land. The Dyrling force was destroyed and the Zuberi invaders returned thru the passage of the Canyon of the Dead, to be met by the priest king riding to stop them. He named them dishonored for their foul deed. When the leaders swore to return and avenge their fallen comrades, the priest king called from the very tombs in the canyon of the dead the buried previous priest kings, who on mass cursed the band never to die and never to leave. The dyrling dead still haunt this destroyed battle land forever protecting the border from invaders. However, they in death can not tell the difference between friend and foe. (Yes this does suggest that the tombs in the Canyon of the dead are for priest kings.) Gnawlings: The gnawlings are an old race, and survived the battle with Akroth over 5,000 years ago, but they are primarily a primitive race. http://www.geocities.com/Area51/Vault/6990/formor.html An interesting reference from that page gives an actual historical myth for rat men. Might want to consider either using this information as part of the fiction for the gnawlings, or putting in a second rat men npc for the valgarins. I like both options. The fairy reference and behavior DOES suit the Dyrlings, and the name “gnawlings” might just be their –common- name. However the location suits Valgard better. Maybe gnawlings are cousins of the Fir Darrig. “The Fir Darrig, are fat ugly faeries with a rat-like appearance and old, torn clothing. They are believed to be a sub-race of Formorian and live near the sea rather than in it. They make homes in the raths and marshes near the coast. They are very dangerous, with a morbid sense of humor, and food tastes that run to carrion.”
Goblins
The goblins have always had a loose and troubled pact with the Tu'Dannan. But when the pact was made with Athlendyr, the goblins were not part of it and stayed. They made their home in an abandoned underground city, the origins of which are unknown, and prolly built by one of the "lost races".
