Dyrling OriginsThe origin of the Dyrlings can be traced to the dawn of time. In the beginning, Dyrlings were travelers, wandering the endless forest of their world, always close to the nature and respectful of the life. Moving from place to place to suit their need or simply for the pleasure of seeing new scenes, their philosophy was to simply enjoy the existence Athlendyr has given them. And since they were all child of the Lion, they considered themselves as a family. In time, they encounter the others races who populate the world of Comraich and some contacts were established. Being a race who could easily be describe as gentle, they never consider these strangers as possible threat and consequently Dyrlings rapidly established relation with their neighbors. At first it was only random encounter, occasional meeting, but as time passed, commercial and cultural exchange begun. Those exchanges generated a major change in the Dyrling society: they became sedentary. They learned from these other cultures the benefit of agriculture and consequently, Dyrlings started to build villages and small towns. Being expert in the working of the wood, they constructed their buildings using mainly logs. Also, since they never lost their love and respect for life, they build their villages to be in harmony with the surrounding nature, never to hurt the forest that nourished them. As time flow, they evolved to become the Dyrlings we know today. But not all Dyrling followed this path. Some of them choose to conserve the old way, to continue to live as eternal wanderers. Even so this choice set them apart of the rest of the Dyrling race, neither the village's Dyrling nor the traveling one ever forget that they were still all child of the Lion, all part of the same family. This is why, even if each group do not agree with the way the other have decided to live, they still love and respect their brothers. The nomad Dyrlings still travel endlessly across the land. If they prefer to remain under the covert of the forest, they are sometime seen in the plain, where they make deal with other races. They sell Dyrling's products and in exchange bring back to the "town's people" (village's Dyrling) the goods they acquire from these others races. They travel mainly in small clan, often limited to the family member, but they still welcome others with open arms. They have an oral tradition, meaning the parents teach to the child what their own parents teach them, which they also learn from their parents. History, culture, traditions, art; all is passed down from generation to generation this way. Their main means of teaching are old songs and legends that they inherited from the first Dyrling. |
