Combat & WarGenerally speaking, Dyrlings are a happy and friendly race. This has sometimes led to other races thinking that they are weak and not capable of a strong defense or offence. This is not the case. One thing can be said when it comes time to defend Telrae'dor all Dyrlings act. It might be because of the extended kin circles but the end result is the same. DefenseWhen it comes to mounting a defense Dyrlings are organized and efficient. They naturally fall into efficient units. It isn't unusual to see the knights of the realm shoulder to shoulder with clerics and common fighters when mounting a defense. This front line is supported by Pards and Pard'wan and other expert archers. Mingling with the Pards are those with magic talents casting offensive and defensive spells. Beyond this point many of the non-combat townspeople wait for the wounded and are busy preparing supplies for the conflict. The most common tactic for Dyrling defense is to hold a specific point until the enemy has weakened itself against this formidable type of formation. Then they move forward as one to route any remnants of attack. Although the specifics of a battle may change and every leader may use different tactics one truth remains, all Dyrlings unite as one to defend their home. Everyone from the soldiers right through to nobles and common townspeople aid in defense. In hard fought battles Athlendyr has been known to take form and aid his children, though this is not usually the case. OffenceDyrlings are not a race that believes in conquest and offensive war. If
Dyrlings are mounting to go on an offensive attack then it is likely that it is
a retaliation for some earlier action against them. When mounting an aggressive
movement the bulk of the work usually falls to the Knights and Pards. The Pard
make excellent scouts leading the heavier troops through difficult terrain and
past possible ambushes. When the time comes for the battle the knights take to
the front and wait for the orders to attack. Again the Pard form up an act as
supporting archers. Even in offence it is not uncommon to see a Dyrling from
every walk of life involved in some way much like the defense scenario. |
