Clothing

To say that the Dyrlings are slaves to fashion is not an understatement. Between the rich soil that supports the growth of all kinds of natural fibers, like linen, wool, and cotton, they are voracious importers of silk from the snake people and cashmere and rare furs from the snow people.

The Dyrlings are skilled weavers and tailors. Additionally, the varied temperature of the kingdom, with cold winters to hot summers, allows for a wide range of clothing styles. Something the nobility takes great advantage in, designing new styles and commissioning rich fabrics. There is no shyness over bare skin, yet both men and women can be found dressed head to foot in rich cloth during the fall and winter, and then shedding them for almost skimpy spring and summer dress. The choice of colors is a personal one, and people often have a preferred set of colors they wear, with the styles varying widely.

Corsets, in contrast to the snow people bodices, are elaborate affairs, heavily boned and designed to show off a women's figure. Through out the centuries, the use of crinoline, hops, and bustles have come and gone, and come again. Even the common folk have the skill to produce delightful designs, for those that can not afford the richest fabrics, delicate embroidery is used to decorate the clothing. However the clothing is not sturdy like the clothing of the desert people and is replaced often.

One thing they prize are the rich furs that can be gotten from the snow people, and an active trade exists. Raw silk from the snake people is often imported, and the tailors of the Dyrlings craft some incredible patterns, many which are exported to the city folk of the desert people. Again as stated before, hair styles and adornments are also an important part of the culture. As are jewels and rings.
